Lightning Storm Over The Valley Of Fire : Nevada : 2013

The Valley of Fire is over 600 miles away from home in the desert outside of Las Vegas. I grew up watching lightning storms and being mesmerized by their power. Where I live now, lightning rarely happens, thus making it impossible to photograph.

To get this photograph, I watched the weather in the region for weeks and carefully planned. Once I noticed a break in my schedule I confirmed with the weather reports and they convinced me to make the long drive to the desert. The very next day, just after the sunset I watched this storm grow in the distance and eventually got this photograph. Patience is a virtue when photographing nature.
